Dolce & Gabbana is one of the newer additions to the fashion industry. Established just over 2 decades ago,D&G has received a significant amount of recognition surrounding the label and have climbed their way to the top of the industry. The signature look of this collection is actually quite diverse compared to most other labels. D&G designs can range from overtly sexy to subtly gorgeous, depending on what you’re looking for. Their super sexy designs are created to flatter women of all shapes and sizes while maintaining a fabulous image.
Domenico Dolce was born in 1958, near Palermo, Sicily, whilst Stefano Gabbana (b. 1962) comes from in Milan. The pair first met in Milan in 1980, while working as assistants in an atelier. They started business together in 1982, and continued to do freelance designing for others. In 1985, they made their name together when the organisers of the Milano Collezioni invited them to take part in a fashion show to launch "New Talents". Just one year later in 1986, they presented their first independent women's ready-to-wear show that won international acclaim. The brand soon expanded to knitwear, beachwear, lingerie and accessories, and also introduced menswear and a line of signature fragrances. The first boutique opened in 1989 in Tokyo, Japan. With subsequent openings in Milan and Hong Kong.
In 2005 the duo officially split up, ending their romantic relationship. However their professional relationship has continued, carrying on the business as friends.
In October, 2006 the duo opened their first restaurant, Gold on Via Poerio in Milan with an entirely gold coloured interior. The 202-seat boite, just behind their Metropol show space, sports a first-floor gourmet restaurant, a ground-floor casual bistro and a small food shop that carries items from Gold's traditional Mediterranean menu.
D&G Junior is a separate line aimed at children under the age of 11. Similar to the D&G adult line, D&G Junior follows seasonal trends for boys and girls across a range of ages. D&G Junior is more visibly influenced by popular culture compared to D&G, such as the Ibiza line of D&G Junior.
Dolce & Gabbana was publicly criticized by Britain's advertising watchdog Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in January 2007, for an advertising campaign showing models brandishing knives.
Following complaints from consumers' groups in February 2007, Dolce & Gabbana pulled an advertisement in Madrid, Spain and Paris, France that showed a man holding a woman to the ground by her wrists while a group of men look on. Spain's Labour and Social Affairs Ministry branded the campaign as illegal and humiliating to women, saying the woman's body position had no relation to the products Dolce & Gabbana were trying to sell. Italian publications followed suit, banning the ad.
In 2008 Dolce & Gabbana has applied its creative vision to iGoogle, the customized Google page, with exclusive downloadable themes. Also, Dolce & Gabbana tells its own story and relationship with the world of music, sport, cinema, etc. by publishing eight books that gather the unforgettable shoots of Craig McDean, Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Ellen von Unwerth, Mario Sorrenti.
Finaly we can say that Dolce and Gabbana is a relativly young name in the fashion industry, and in its short time has created quite a huge impact. The creatores of the company were born in the years 1958 and 1962 respectivly, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. These men have dug themself out quite a niche in the fashion market in their short time manufacturing their items -- building their empire on a very raw yet sensual and dignified sense of fashionable merchandise.
These two Italian together combined their talents in 1982, and were dismiessed by other people as predicted to be failured, for being "too young" of all reasons to fail for. I personally am wondering what those critics have to say right now, after they have literally built empires in a tiny amount of time.
Dolce & Gabbana brings many of its influences into their fashion from their young, paticualiary dolces. They designed a wardrobe for one of Madonna's world tours, and this did nothing but bring the company for view.
In the first year the duo started off, 1982 -- they opened up a D&G Studio, although it did not get popular until the year of 1985. In the month of October 1985, They duo went to the Milano Colleziono Fashion show, and they were noted as being a promising new talent. Exactly one year later, the duo released their first proclaimed self-made collection, entitled - real woman.
In the late 1980's D&G expanded and their clothes starting appearing in cities such as Tokyo. Soon after that they went to New York, and People within the company call this time as when the flood gated opened.
